Now and again, check all the visible plumbing around your home. Some things to look out for are rusty steel flexible hoses underneath your kitchen, laundry or bathroom sinks, any slow-running drains or toilets, any pooling water or rust around the bottom of your hot water unit, regular cleaning of your gutters, dripping taps that need to be fixed as soon as it starts happening. Ensure that your water box lid is accessible at all times.

On your boundary line, between your front fence and the street kerb. On the left or right side, a plastic box in the ground will have a black or green lid. Your water meter and isolation valve is located inside. To isolate the water to your property, turn off the isolation valve located on the kerb site of the water meter. You may need a shifting spanner to do this.

This is called a water hammer; many things can cause water hammer; however, it is usually caused by too much water pressure inside the pipelines. The banging sound is from the pipeline pressuring too quickly once the tap is turned off. Imagine a car travelling at 300km/h and then a wall suddenly appears in front of it. This is what the water is doing every time you turn off your tap. This can cause significant damage to your tapware and pipework if left unattended.

The australian plumbing standard AS3500 states that incoming water pressure can be a maximum of 500kpa. If your property has incoming water pressure higher than this and a pipe bursts, causing damage to your home, you may not be covered by insurance as your plumbing is not up to the current standard.

We can quickly fix this by fitting a pressure reduction valve at water entry to your house. This valve will guarantee a constant pressure of 500kpa. This and a compliance certificate we provided will protect your home from high water pressure day and night.
